Hi Everyone,
Last June, my girlfriend and I returned from an incredible 10-day adventure in Kenya, thanks to the amazing planning and service provided by Crystal Tours Kenya. This trip was one of the most enriching and thrilling holidays we’ve ever had, and I hope this trip report helps anyone planning their dream safari in Kenya.
Crystal Tours Kenya stood out from the moment we first contacted them. Their customer service was exceptional, and they tailored the entire trip to our exact needs. Esther, our consultant, was a gem—patient, knowledgeable, and always ready to adjust the itinerary to fit our preferences. She arranged everything from airport pick-up to accommodation, meals, and activities, all at a budget-friendly price.
Here’s a detailed breakdown of our unforgettable itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival & Maasai Mara Game Drive
After a long flight and a slight delay, we landed in Nairobi. Esther and Patrick (our driver-guide) were waiting to greet us with warm smiles. We drove directly to the Maasai Mara, with a quick lunch stop along the way. Although it was late afternoon by the time we arrived, we managed to fit in a fantastic game drive.
Our accommodation, the Mara Sidai Camp, was simple but clean and comfortable, and the staff made us feel welcome. Dinner was hearty and delicious—a perfect end to our first day.
Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive in the Maasai Mara
We spent the entire day exploring the Maasai Mara, and it was truly a safari lover’s dream. Lions, elephants, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles—you name it, we saw it! Patrick’s sharp eye and deep knowledge of the animals ensured that we got the best sightings.
A packed lunch under the shade of an acacia tree made for a perfect break in between game drives. By the end of the day, we were exhausted but exhilarated.
Day 3: Flamingos at Lake Bogoria
Next, we headed to Lake Bogoria, famous for its stunning flamingo population. The drive was long but scenic. Upon arrival, we were treated to the sight of thousands of flamingos painting the lake pink—a sight we will never forget. That night, we stayed at a nearby lodge with a cozy, relaxed vibe.
Day 4: Exploring Nanyuki
From Lake Bogoria, we traveled to Nanyuki, the gateway to Mt. Kenya. Our mountain guide, Wilson, and porter, Gamby, joined us here. They briefed us on the trek ahead, and Gamby took us on a delightful walking tour of Nanyuki town, where we mingled with the locals.
Days 5–9: Climbing Mt. Kenya (Point Lenana)
The climb was a highlight of the trip. Here’s a quick summary of each day:
- Day 5: Hike to Old Moses Camp (3300m).
- Day 6: Acclimatization walk to 4000m.
- Day 7: Trek to Shiptons Camp (4200m).
- Day 8: Summit to Point Lenana (4985m) at sunrise—an awe-inspiring experience! We descended back to Shiptons.
- Day 9: A long descent to Nanyuki, where a hot shower awaited us.
The mountain trek was challenging but rewarding, thanks to the experienced and friendly team of guides, porters, and cooks.
Day 10: Departure
We ended our trip with a relaxing drive back to Nairobi, arriving in time for our flight back home.
